How we became a band:

Our lead singer Koa Young started playing music at 16 years old when he bought a ukulele from a friend and took it everywhere back in Hawaii where he grow up.

31 years later he continues playing music for the people of Nevada county where he moved 15 years ago. Koa brings with him the sounds of mixed Hawaii and Reggae.

Joining him is Steed aka Daddy Dasty also lead singer who he met over a year ago in Nevada City at a restaurant called Likas Cafe. One day the owner asked if Koa could play reggae with his brother-in-law (Steed) while he was visiting from France. Steed was born in Martinique French Caribbean he has been making music since the age of 3 coming from a family of musicians he have worked with many artists I released an album in 2009 he had played in quite a few countries around the world. Although Koa was hesitant as he knew “Hawaiian Style” reggae, and Steed was a Caribbean man, Koa showed up with his nylon string acoustic guitar. The two styles were a fit and they’ve been playing together ever since calling themselves “Dasty Island.”

They are accompanied by some accomplished musicians, Gary Epps on lead guitar, Tunede Milliner on bass, Patrick and Sean Millar on Drums. From original songs to Bob Marley to UB40 to other reggae classics, the music of Dasty Island can be summed up in one word…Fun
